“I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside.”

-Whitney Houston

How often do we find ourselves in a spot where we wish we learnt a thing or two about a particular skill, especially when we need to get along efficiently with our daily life? Here’s a chance for you to use your time to teach your children the importance of being nifty by teaching them about the life hacks that will help them go through difficult times, with ease.

Additionally, these hacks can also be engaging for children, hence allowing them to let out some built-up energy and learn about the basics of self-sufficiency. After all, would it be so bad to bond with your child and impart important knowledge, while having fun together?

THE FIRST AID BOX

Every household has a box full of tablets, bandaids and cough drops, and every child is marvelled at the sight of this helpful box that seems to have everything that is needed. So, let’s show them how the box is put together. Start from scratch and tell the use of every item in the box and the way to use it.

LEARN WITH A PIGGY BANK

Let the little ones handle their finances and learn about how spends should be made. Set them up with a handmade chequebook and ask them to handle their debits and credits, what this does is that children get their reality check and become financially independent at a very early age.

WASH. DRY. FOLD.

The one duty we all detest as grownups is laundry and if this habit is inculcated in your child’s everyday life, these tasks become a chore to complete reflexively. This will also make them feel like they are a part of a team, making them feel valued and important.

COOKING, AND A CLEAN KITCHEN

Children are inherently curious and the kitchen, of all the places, is the most fascinating as that is the place where all the good munchies come from! Channel their curiosity and let them learn about the basics of cooking and the way the flavours are put together. Let them stay and watch where the clean knives and the dry plates go. Let them watch until the kitchen is all clean and the food is set on the dining table. This way, they will learn to be appreciative of your efforts and learn how much sugar to add to their tea!

SAFETY WITH TOOLS

While in the kitchen or at their study room, children need to learn the basic safety measures that need to be followed while handling knives, scissors and other sharp/dangerous tools. The older they get, they would soon start handling and helping with the household chores and a bit of gardening, maybe!

TO THREAD A NEEDLE & SEW

While it may seem like a not-so-important skill to impart, it is on the contrary a very important hack! They will not only learn to be self-reliant with minor sewing work and lose buttons. They will also learn to be prudent, and will have a sense of where to invest their money.

ENGAGEMENT AND TIME MANAGEMENT

It is important to find ways to engage your child and keep up with their energy. They are sponges that scourge for information, after all. To let it be idle or too engaged is not a balance. We must attain the balance where they are both engaged and get their own time to think and process all the information they gained the same day.

Gauge their energy levels and their curiosity. Let them learn and gain new information at their pace. This is one of the most positive things to do, especially with the pandemic and its lasting effects.
