December means something to everyone. For us adults, it’s the year-end holidays to relax, go on a vacation or unwind; for our kids, it’s a little more magical than that. December means Christmas, the Spirit of Gifting, the magic of Santa Claus, the bright lights & sparkly Christmas trees and all things wondrous, beautiful and full of joy!

Festivities are generally a time for gifts, but Christmas gifting takes on a whole new meaning. Thanks to the magical and mysterious Santa Claus. He’s someone loved by kids; he brings them their heart-yearning gifts and lets them know they’ve been good all year.

As parents, we’d love to keep the joyful wonder of their childhood alive for as long as possible. Indulge them with their whimsical requests, and go on a sleigh ride to the magical North Pole — even if it’s a simple ride in the mall. But, of course, there are many ways we can keep the magical spirit alive for a long time until the myth gets busted with a simple Google Search or when our children grow up. But until then, here are a few tips to make lasting memories for your children.

Here are 5 ways you can become THE Santa Claus of your children:

  • Planning the gifts: If you wish your kid to believe in a secret messenger with their favourite toys, set the trail for one. You could have them write a letter to Santa a couple of weeks in advance, the old-school way, and leave them under their pillow. So you can be prepared to buy them and hide them under the tree on Christmas eve.
  • Hide The gifts and goodies: Keeping wrapped gifts in your closet is a sure giveaway that Santa isn’t the one leaving those presents under their tree. So make sure to hide them well, especially not in your home. Kids are great at hiding and seeking and will probably leave the house upside down. You could either keep them in your office or leave them at your friends’ place with infants or older children. This goes for all the goodies and sweets you plan to set up around the tree.
  • Tracking Santa: Children are tech-savvy these days and want some proof. Worry not; certain apps actually track Santa’s movements and are pretty convincing.
  • Make them go to bed early on Christmas eve: Telling them that Santa will visit homes where kids are sleeping is a good ruse to get them to bed early. Add in a good bedtime story, and you could have them dozing soon. You’ll need the time to assemble gifts and finish last-minute wrappings. Most of all, you don’t want to be caught in the act of stashing gifts under the tree.
  • Leave trails of the nightly secret visit: After setting up the tree, gifts and goodies, make sure to leave trails of the secret visit. Make sure to leave boot prints on the carpet, drink the milk, eat cookies, and leave some crumbs around the plate. When your children see some evidence, they’ll be more convinced, and it’ll keep the magical mystery alive for another year.

Come Christmas day morning, your children’s excitement at discovering the gifts and unwrapping them is worth all the efforts you took and make for excellent family video moments.

Treat them to some wholesome indoor fun on the day, and take them to your nearest Fun City to keep the excitement going the whole day!
