If the title brought you here, don’t worry, you’re not alone! Summer can be hard for parents, especially after those first few weeks of their vacation; kids’ boredom can lead to more harm than good. They may steer towards extended screen time, unworked minds, and neglected physical exercise. However, after a skim of this blog, we can turn their summer around for the better! Just keep reading

  • Arts and crafts: As they say, art is both creation and recreation. Creativity is food for the soul and work for the hands, you could engage in some quality family time as you pull out the glitters and beads and create something fun (maybe even useful!). Creating art stimulates a child’s senses as they work with textures and intricacy, and not to mention, the sense of achievement whilst standing over something you created! Simply unexplainable and priceless.
  • Cooking: As we all know, ‘healthy’ is a banned word around kids and the color green on their plate makes their legs walk the other way. Articles state that children eat more of the food they’re involved in making. Also, involving children in food preparation promotes healthier eating habits and helps them build empathy. ‘Tasting as they go’ can make them more familiar with textures and tastes (perhaps even warms them to vegetables). When kids are lazing around, we would always suggest a little whisking and flipping to get them going!
  • Exercise: With the sun’s tentacles seeping through windows and heating our homes, it’s natural for kids to not engage in play and exercise. However, this can have lasting repercussions on one’s body such as muscle cramps, back and shoulder pain, and fatigue. Not to worry! There are ways to keep kids exercising, and beating the heat! Yoga calms the mind and works the muscles without over-exhaustion. Moreover, it can improve concentration and discipline in kids without them even realising it. Another way is age-old dancing! Zumba, or even blasting some music can get the kids up and jumping, smiling wide and sweating all the same!
  • Reading: When this world is too bleak for fun, kids shouldn’t be disappointed since there are far too many worlds to count-on their bookshelf! Building vocabulary and creativity are not the only benefits of reading, as it strays their minds away from screens and passes their time productively, it can also be so much fun! Who doesn’t want to read about wizards or a galaxy far far away? Fictional friends are exceptional teachers of ethics and morals as well!

We hope you have already started making lists of activities to do with your child these few months! Have a happy, healthy, and safe summer!
