Parents are the ultimate role model. Every word, movement and action has an effect. No other person or outside force has a greater influence on a child than the parent.

-Bob Keeshan

Children often grow up thinking their actual superheroes are those whom they come across in movies and comic books. But in reality, they look up to their parents, whose lifestyle and behaviors they idolise. It is easy to positively impact your child’s life by simply trying to be the best version of yourself during days of happiness and days of difficulty.

Here are basic things to follow to achieve your goal of being a super-parent!

A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Start by maintaining a great lifestyle, health-wise and mentally. Not only does this improve your life and state-of-mind, but also helps tune your child’s choices and an understanding of how a healthy life benefits us.

YOUR BEST VERSION

Be your best self as much as you can. Keep pushing yourself towards new experiences and build a thirst for horizons and happiness. This will nourish our children and give them happy childhood memories, pushing them towards a happy life filled with goals and opportunities.

LEND A HELPING HAND

Practice the habit of helping others out as this sets a strong foundation of justice and empathy in our children. Step up and lend a helping hand to those in need, be it relatives or friends. Children grow up watching parents and how they handle situations. They are silent observers and will absorb all the information around them, subconsciously. This is why it is important to inculcate this habit. Moreover, helping a fellow human being only gives you happiness, shaping yourself into a giving and loving individual.

A TRANSPARENT & FULL LIFE

Live a life filled with happiness and laughter. Live openly and share your happiness with your family and your loved ones. Speak up, speak your heart and always stand-up for what you believe in. These habits will encourage the younger generation to focus on a well-rounded, simple and peaceful life.

EMOTIONAL STABILITY

It is only natural to lose your cool during times of distress. Children appreciate being treated like an equal, hence even if you raised your voice or unwantedly snapped at them, make sure you explain why it happened and apologise. This will allow children to learn to take responsibility for their actions and in general age as an empathetic individual.

CHOOSE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

The way you form bonds is under close observation. Children weigh and calculate how you maintain relationships in order to mimic the pattern, to be socially accepted. If you exhibit a pattern that is filled with mutual benefit, respect and growth, children will be very careful to mimic a healthy way of forming relationships and hence ace in handling social dilemmas. They even grow up to be extremely confident and sure with the sense of universal justice.

BE ALL EARS

If you raise your children as a receptive parent, your children are bound to grow up to be one too. The more you open yourself up and hear them out, the more they appreciate responsiveness and respect. They will learn to keep everyone around them equally.

RECEPTIVE AND POSITIVE

A positive attitude is very important, especially when you are raising a child. It is also important to express your problems, not shunning your child away from reality. But it is important to handle it with a brave face and impart a very important lesson, effortlessly. Not only does this help your mental health, but also your entire family’s.

SET & ACHIEVE GOALS

Set goals for yourself and remember to take time off your schedule to tick them off as you enjoy life to the fullest. This will remind children, when they enter adulthood, that life is more than just money. It is about stability, balance and hard work. Show them that a life fully lived can be well-planned and worked towards.

PROMISES YOU CAN KEEP

ONLY make promises you can keep. Children bond with people based on trust and mutual respect, so when you fail to keep multiple promises, your bond turns sour. Give them and yourself a chance to enjoy being around loving people with whom you keep promises and express gratitude often.

Try your best to be the parent you wish you had, growing up!
